WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT CCSJ

“CCSJ programs not only empowered me to get more involved in making changes in my community but also encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and open up to people of different cultural backgrounds.”

Anar Parikh, Myers Park

In 2006 I had the honor of being part of CCSJ’s Civil Rights Conference. It was everything that I imagined it to be and more … it increased my knowledge of my history and ways that I can make a change. I was motivated to go back to my community and influence other youth on how to become community builders for a more just society.

Derrick Lewis, Philip O Berry

I once thought it was pointless to even lift a finger for what I believe.  I felt discouraged thinking I don’t have the rhetoric of MLK, the background of Maya Angelou, or the talent of Bob Marley or Bono.  I no longer think that way.  I realize the most important thing I need to create change is simply passion, and that I have!

 Adrian Tapia, Harding

If there is anything that I am TRULY proud of, it is my participation with CCSJ.  It started when I attended Youth Activism in March, 2006. Because of the impact it had on my life, I participated in many other programs.  Thanks to CCSJ, I've been able to begin a Gay-Straight Alliance in my school, which is HUGE because I'm the first in my school’s history to accomplish it.  Through CCSJ I learned that I have a voice in our society.

Juan Vasquez, Garinger

I attend the CCSJ Neighborhood program because it’s the only place where I feel my voice is heard.
