ABOUT CCSJ AND CHARLOTTE WALKS TOGETHER

Charlotte Coalition for Social Justice
The mission of the Charlotte Coalition for Social Justice (CCSJ) is to build community and advance the cause of social justice by developing leaders who will work to dismantle all forms of prejudice, discrimination and oppression and create positive social change. Learn more about CCSJ programming and outreach on the CCSJ home page.

What is Charlotte Walks Together?
Charlotte Walks Together is a fundraiser for the Charlotte Coalition for Social Justice (CCSJ). The walk-a-thon celebrates diversity and promotes inclusion and social justice in our community.  Corporate and media sponsors partner with us to recruit individuals and teams of walkers from all sectors of the community.  Over the past six years in Charlotte, we have brought together thousands of people to walk and enjoy a showcase of local artists representing a wide variety of cultures.

What does Charlotte Walks Together do for the Charlotte Region?
Charlotte Walks Together unites teams from all walks of life to build understanding and relationships across lines of difference. We encourage the companies, organizations and individuals that are building teams to be purposeful in bringing together people who are different from one another and might not work together in the usual course of events. Put simply, Charlotte Walks Together builds community!

How will the funds raised by Charlotte Walks Together be used?
Funds raised by the walk-a-thon will be used to support CCSJ’s Empowering Youth Initiative, which provides year-round programming for young people.  Specifically, the proceeds provide scholarships for youth who would otherwise not have the means to attend CCSJ Leadership Programs. With your help, we are building the leaders of tomorrow today.

What is CCSJ’s relationship to NCCJ?
You may know us by our former name, the National Conference of Community & Justice (NCCJ). Along with the majority of NCCJ chapters across the country, we have chosen to incorporate as a local, non-profit organization. Our newly independent status allows us to focus our efforts entirely on the unique issues facing our growing region and to adapt quickly to Charlotte’s changing needs. In addition, every dollar raised through Charlotte Walks Together will now remain in the Charlotte community.
